This Heritage Day\, DJ BOB Jazz Club (@djbob206 ) returns with special guests Bubbles the DJ (@bubblesthedj) and Flames Sh ilowa (@el_metalo) to take you on a journey through jazzy sounds\, rhythm and grooves.
As a selector\, curator\, mentor\, and longtime standing figu re in South Africa’s music scene\, DJ BOB is known for his genre-fluid s ets that move effortlessly through Trad Jazz\, Afrobeat\, Samba\, Trip Hop and Acid Jazz. He helped shape Joburg’s live music culture with the ico nic 206 Live\, a venue he opened in Yeoville (1993)\, produced and perform ed at OppiKoppi for over two decades\, and has played an ongoing role at B ushfire Festival in Eswatini since 2008. His influence spans Southern Afri ca — from Maputo to Soweto — touring with artists such as BLK JKS\, Th e Brother Moves On\, Tumi & The Volume and 340ML.
DJ BUBBLES
Bubbles The DJ (Billy Jackson/Bubblingo) is a Pretoria-based vinyl enthusiast\, record collector\, music historian\, researcher\, social critic\, record produce r\, cultural activist with close to three decades in the music industry. F rom township parties in the ‘90’s to sets at Design Indaba\, OppiKoppi \, Red Bull Music Festival 2018\, and the MTN Bushfire Music Festival (201 9 & 2024)\, his journey has cemented him as a key figure in South Africa ’s music culture. Today\, he plays across the country at venues such as The Chairman (Durban)\, Selective Live\, One Park Sound Bar (Cape Town)\, The One Room (Port Elizabeth) and various dance & jazz clubs in Johannesbu rg.
FLAMES SHILOWA
Flames Shilowa is a graphic designer\, DJ\, and reco rd collector with a deep interest in both African and electronic music. Ba sed in Johannesburg\, he is co-founder of Fly Machine Sessions\, a DJ and research collective\, and a member of the music collective Septober Energy . His work bridges design\, sound\, and research\, with a commitment to pr eserving and reimagining diverse musical traditions.
DJ Bob Jazz Clu b is a collective of DJ’s united by a love of jazz\, vinyl\, and musical discovery. Guided by the ethos “Jazz and derivatives of\,” the collec tive explores South African sounds ranging from Samba\, Afrobeat to Miriam Makheba\, Ghanian Funk\, and Mbaqanga. Performing across Pretoria\, Sowet o\, Brixton\, Braamfontein\, and KwaZulu-Natal\, they offer audiences a ri ch listening and dancing experience\, complete with a mini vinyl fair wher e collectors can buy or swap preloved records.
NIROX is a private not-for-profit foundation to benefit the arts.
All income is used to maintain the grounds\, the artist r esidency programme\, and artist support.
